Took a short hiatus but thought I would post an update. I have spent most of the past week or so in between work and visiting at the Children's Hospital. This is my fourteen year old cousin, Katya. A completely normal kid who happened to wake up one morning, paralyzed from the neck down. She has been diagnosed with a rare condition called Transverse Myelitis- an inflammatory disease in the spinal cord causing paralysis. Over a week of constant tests, steroid injections, plasma exchanges, shots, medications, etc, she is gaining a little movement in her arms and the sense of touch on her skin. There is a constant flow of doctors and nurses in her room at all times. She has been in the ICU but they hope to move her up to a physical therapy ward soon where she will likely stay for a few more weeks. Katya and I have been watching movies, reading Harry Potter, eating candy, and hanging up 1Direction posters in her room to keep entertained. Despite how hard it must be for an energetic kid to be bed ridden 24/7, she is in pretty good spirits. She even requested that I draw her as a T-Rex because she feels like she has T-Rex arms right now. Anyway, she has been the main thing on my mind lately. Wish her luck in her recovery.
In other news, work is very busy. Some scouting and photo shoots this week. Kegs with Legs is this Thursday at HL. Go to that.
I did go to record store day this past weekend. I didn't end up purchasing anything, but had the pleasure of listening to Mr. Jim Harper spin some Kiss and Rush and Superfun and the like at Vintage Vinyl. Got some tacos with friends and a short bike ride in too.
